When a family slides that key into the lock of a house they’ve helped build, they’re unlocking more than the physical front door to a new home. They’re unlocking a brighter future, built with more than wood and nails. With education and coaching from Habitat for Humanity, they’re also on a clearer financial path than they perhaps have ever known.
Future Habitat homeowners participate in financial education classes, often before the building process even begins. These pre-purchase classes cover topics like credit repair, checking, savings, money market accounts, loans, estate planning, and wills.
Each family focuses on creating a detailed budget to understand and better manage their income and expenses. After patterns begin to emerge, families can focus on increased savings strategies and if there is substantial debt, how to attack that.
EquiTrust is proud to support Habitat for Humanity in their efforts to build both homes and financial literacy in our communities.
